The Great Outdoors
Aw the outdoors. Don't ya just love a cool breeze with the warmth of the sun shining on your face? I love it so much I have the wrinkles to prove it, haha. I wear them as sweet reminders of time spent under the sizzle of the sun.
Have you ever noticed how most people are longing to get away? To go on vacation? And how those destinations time and time again tend to be outdoors? Alaska, Hawaii, the Grand Canyon, Mexico; all places where the things that attract tourists are outdoors. Well, I dare say there is a reason for that. We long for it because it was made for us. When God created everything he created an environment fit for us. Now I'm not saying I don't love indoor spaces. I love me some A/C and a good ol' flushing toilet. I realize shelter is good and needed, and God provided resources for that and some solid brain power out there to figure out how to build it and improve it over millennia. But with that being said, you will frequently find me camping on the beaches of Southern California and there's something so peaceful about that. Why would I give up sleeping in my comfy bed and a controlled environment? Some of you might be saying "yeah, actually, why would you?" haha. We all have our own likings of different outdoor activities and locations. My husband loves the desert. He loves hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon in 120 degree heat. I keep trying to remind him that God sent people to the desert for correction and discipline. He's a man's man, what can I say. I am more of the warm turquoise water, warm air, swimming and waves kind of girl, where you eat fresh juicy fruit, as you melt into your environment. Aww, see, don't you just want to be sitting on the beach in Hawaii right now drinking juice out of a pineapple? Whatever your affinity is where the outdoors are concerned, it is good for the mind, good for the soul to get out there. To breathe in the elements. Interesting little side note: Did you know that the same 11 elements found in our bodies are the same elements found in the soil of the earth? "From the dust you came..." Genesis 3:19, and also "Because God knows how we're made, God remembers we're just dust." Psalm 103:14
So I believe getting outside is part of experiencing all God has for us. It's good for us in a plethora of ways. Whether you are single, married, a family of 6, or a widow or widower: getting outside alone with God or with your crew will revitalize your mind. I feel a little more alive when I get outside and there's this connection that happens with the Lord almost as if someone removed the covers, and the earth is laid bare before me. It's getting away from all the man-made distractions. So let's get after it. Let's get outside.
I am determined to make memories, to go on adventures, to make them count, with my family and friends. So I will be sharing ideas of outings and adventures that you can take with your kids or go on with your girlfriends, your bros, or even lone adventures. Sometimes it's good to go with just Jesus. Let me be your tour guide : )
